How to Shake Hands

The Client

Northwestern Career Advancement (NCA) provides students with the resources they need to excel in their career journeys.

My Goal

To create an engaging and educational video that shows students how to make an impact with their handshake.

To start, I worked with NCA and other students to identify what makes a strong handshake. I then made some preliminary sketches and developed a storyboard and script.

Visual Style

After sketching out a storyboard, I shifted to focus on the visual style for the animation. It was important for the video to be both professional and relatable, and to also fit Northwestern’s brand guidelines. The combination of a minimal color palette selected from Northwestern’s secondary colors and more playful illustrations did just that.

Style Frames

I then designed the final vectorized frames with animation notes and prepared the files for After Effects.

I also recorded and edited a voiceover for the video.

And lastly: the actual animation & putting it all together!

The graphics were  animated to match the pace of the voiceover, and then exported to produce the final product.
